The 1st team welcomed Civil Service to the all weather pitch in Rivervalley on Sunday morning in the 4th round of the championship. St Finians started strongly. Nathan Foster was converting the close in frees and Senan Crosbie the long range frees with James Shelly getting the first score from play with a point. Senan was causing Civil Service a lot of problems running at their defence and Lee Kavanagh and Mattie Murray gave Finians a strong foothold at midfield feeding good ball to the forwards. A good 1st half performance saw Finians lead 0-13 to 0-7 at half time.Â
St Finians started the 2nd half in whirlwind fashion with excellent early points from Adam O'Shaughnessy and MJ Feehan and the team pushed on to lead by 10 points. However, a goal and 3 points in a short space of time brought Civil Service back into contention. Civil Service were then reduced to 14 men. However, they were still pressing for scores but David Hattie was sweeping well across the backline and goalkeeper Domo Harris did well to deal with balls that broke in around the square.Â
St Finians finished out the last 5 minutes in strong fashion getting final points to secure a 0-22 to 1-13 win which leaves the team in 2nd place in the championship group heading into the last group match in 2 weeks time.
