After promotion last year, the under 14 Division 11 LGFA team got their league campaign off to a competitive start with a very entertaining draw with Clontarf at St. Anne's Park on Sunday.
The game started with Finians on top but for all the quality of play they only had 1 point on the scoreboard. Clontarf eventually went upfield and scored a goal. The Finians girls heads did not drop and scored a really well constructed point to be only 1 point behind at the break.
The girls came charging out of the block and scored 2 goals in the first ten minutes of the second half.
The effort that involved seemed to impact the girls and Clontarf took control. Despite a resolute defence Clontarf eventually took the lead late on, having scored two goals.
With less than 5 minutes to go, Finians were losing by 2 points but, showing real resilience, scores a great team goal.
Clontarf responded with a late point and the spoils were shared.
Overall, it was a very positive start to the season, we had new players in their first game too and we look forward to seeing the girls improve over the season. Well done girls!
