St. Finians are delighted to be chosen as one of 45 clubs across the country to take part in a new pilot 'Green Clubs' programme by the GAA which is to be launched this evening at 7.p.m. The Green Clubs Programme involves the LGFA and Camogie Associations, local authority Climate Action Regional Offices (CAROs), with additional support from expert agencies that reflect the five thematic focus areas of the programme, namely: Energy; Waste; Biodiversity; Water; and Travel & Transport. The programme aims to guide clubs on their journey to becoming more sustainable by using less resources such as energy and water, generating less waste and emissions and save money along the way.

Phase One of the programme will run for 12 months from December 2020 with the intention of gathering as much practical learnings from the participating clubs as possible. This will inform the creation of a GAA Green Clubs toolkit that will be made available to all 1,600 GAA clubs in Ireland, with useful case studies, established partnership models, and funding avenues. Further infomation on the programme is available at https://www.gaa.ie/my-gaa/community-and-health/green-clubs-sustainability/

St. Finians will participate in the 'Travel and Transport' theme to build on the work being done at the club with the support of Fingal County Council on cycling training for teams and bike parking at the club house. As always, help and ideas from club members are welcomed. The Green clubs programme will be launched this evening Dec 9th by Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Climate and Environment , John Horan, Uachtarán CLG and other representatives.
