The lashing rain didn’t put a dampener on a great Sunday afternoon for the St Finians Rounders squad.
⚾️🏆⚾️
The ladies team played an experienced Na Piarsaigh Ladies side from Limerick in their first Intermediate All Ireland Group game. Although the game was a 21-8 loss to Finians, the team learned a lot from playing such an experienced team and most of all the game was played in the spirit of fun and friendliness. Everyone should be super proud of how far the team has come already. New members are joining all the time. It was the first day to get a ladies team photo along with team manager Shane McQuillan all in their new training gear sponsored by Lifestyle Health Fitness Gym.
The mixed team’s 1st competitive game was postponed and so a social game was played against Michael Glaveys of Roscommon who had played a men’s game on our pitch before. Only 2 ladies players could travel for this social so two Finians players volunteered to play for Glaveys. Áine Morris, originally from Ballinlough in Roscommon and played community games rounders as a teen with Michael Glaveys was the obvious choice. Annmarie Corcoran was the second last minute willing volunteer and had a great game also. It was another sporting and fun game with some coaching tips given from Glaveys. They had two new players on their team and the game was close with St Finians winning 16-15 after 3 innings of play. A massive thank you to Michael Glaveys for agreeing to play that game as it will be a good practice run before the rescheduled junior mixed game against Bunbrosna of Westmeath on Friday evening.
Thanks to the club members and others who braved the bad weather to come out and support the teams yesterday.
