Final Score St Finian's 2-13 Na Fianna 0-09

A big Finian's Crowd turned up to watch this massively improving Adult Football team in Ridgewood last night. Judging from the applause at the end they didn't leave disappointed.

The lads wanted to keep an impressive run of form going against a decent Na Fianna team. They have now gone 5 games unbeaten in AFL 5.

Finian's started well from the off with Liam Kiernan picking up a loose ball and driving through to put over a great score in the first minute. With Na Fianna moving the ball well into their forwards, brilliant turnovers from Shane Ainsworth & David Hattie kept the team solid at the back. A brilliant bit of team play led to a great finish from Scott Brennan who slotted home a shot which went into the bottom left-hand corner. Other scorers in the first half included James Doyle (1) Conor Halpin (1) Scott Brennan (1-02) Lee Kavanagh (1) had the lads lead 1-06 to 0-06 going into the break

The second began with Finian's piling on the pressure. They never looked back continuing to put a bigger gap between the teams. With Conor Halpin continuing his good form in front of goal he slotted over 2 lovely points before scoring a superb goal. The Introduction of Eoin O'Connor for Fiachra Comber with 12 minutes gone into the second half was a welcome return to the team. Eoin had been out injured for several months.

Going into the water break some encouraging words from Captain David Butler focused the lads to finish strong.

2 more points from James Doyle who was excellent on the day capped off a great display from him. A Further score from Scott Brennan (1) was the finishing of Na Fianna. A great save from Stephen McNally led to Killian Ryan picking up the ball deep in his own half and taking the game to Na Fianna. He was eventually tipped over 20 yards from goal. He subsequently took the resulting free which he calmly stuck over.

Notable great performances on the night go to James Sullivan, Adam McGuirk, Patrick Dunne & Killian Ryan.

The next game takes place this Sunday 25/07 Away to Oliver Plunketts at 11am.

All support would be greatly appreciated as this will be the group decider.

Best of Luck to Liam Kiernan who is off traveling for the next month. Also well done to Emmet Daly for giving the lads great support.

Big thanks to Fergus O'Neill (U14 Boys) & Stephen Farrell (U10 & U12 Boys) who came out as selectors to support the team. ALF5 team managers will be calling on 2 Sectors from the club for each game to assist & learn team set up & familiarise themselves with players.
