The St Finians 2nd adult hurling team along with O'Tooles concluded their league campaigns in a well contested and very entertaining encounter in River Valley on Friday night.

St Finians were dealt a blow early on with the departure of defensive enforcer Ian Moriarty with a hand injury.

O' Tooles had the breeze in the 1st half but with the full-back line of Shane Darcy, James Quigley, James Sherlock defending well and Shane Darcy looking at home in his new corner back role, O Tooles starting taking their points from further out the field.

St Finians trailed by 2 points at half time having played into a strong breeze with goals from the 2 Johnnies, Johnny Walsh & Johnny Merriman and Paddy Hattie rewarding Finians for their endeavour. Karl Martin, Warren Hanley and Barry Kavanagh were industrious in the half forward line throughout and the goals continued to flow in the 2nd half for Finians as a result with Johnny Walsh, Karl Martin from a well struck penalty and Ciaran Groves all finding the net.

However, with a few speedy and skillful players in midfield & attack, O'Tooles were counteracting the Finian's goals with points.

In the closing minute, St Finians were chasing an equalising point but it was O'Tooles who ended up getting the final score to secure a 2 point victory to conclude a good evening of hurling.

No victory on the night for Finians but plenty of positives to take as focus now turns to the championship.

The match was well refereed by Timmy McCarthy.
