With our first team narrowly defeated in Raheny in the morning, the second adult hurling team travelled to Clondalkin in the afternoon to take on Round Towers Clondalkin to open their championship campaign.
🏑🏆🏑
The conditions were ideal for hurling and St Finians opened strongly with David Murnane making his adult hurling championship debut and Conor Halpin both giving St Finians a good foothold at midfield. Scores started to flow as a result for St Finians but Round Towers Clondalkin struck for a goal and had a strong 2nd quarter meaning St Finians led by just 2pts at halftime on a 1-8 to 1-6 scoreline. Johnny Walsh was the 1st half goal scorer.
After strong words from manager Declan Murphy at halftime, Finians had a commanding 3rd quarter with a goal each from Conor Halpin and Johnny Walsh stretching the Finians lead and Stephen Donnelly also providing a boost and energy coming in as an impact sub.
In the last quarter, Round Towers came back strong looking for goals but the full back line of Eoin Clifford, James Quigley and Shane Darcy were in no mood to concede one leaving Finians with a 3-17 to 1-14 victory.
Next game up is St James Gael at a date tbc.
Congratulations to team captain Dave Kelleher on the new arrival to the household and also to Mark Walsh who is expected back from honeymoon shortly to boost the Championship campaign
