Junior h round 2 hurling championship took place on Sunday afternoon in glorious sunshine in Rivervalley where St Finians faced a strong St. James Gaels/An Caisleán team.
Finians got off to a good start with Vincent Foley making an impact with menacing runs into the James Gaels backline and an early goal was manufactured after one such run and expertly finish by John Walsh. Finians didn't capitalize enough on that early dominance and James Gaels got a foothold in the game and only for some magnificent halfback play from Mikey Butler and Dave Kelliher it could have been further behind than 1-4 to 0-8 at half-time.
Both teams upped the ante in the 3rd quarter and Finians pulled level at the water break.
The final quarter was nervy and Finians missed several chances until finding a bit of rhythm with Steven Donnelly and Karl martin to the fore and pulled away to win 1-13 to 0-11.
Great performances by the backs was the foundation for this win and the reward is a place in the quarter-final in a few weeks.
