The 2nd Adult Hurling Team hosted Eoghan Ruadh/Oliver Plunketts on Sunday in Rivervalley in Round 3 of the championship.
Minor players James Elder & Evan Murray were in the starting line up having impressed on their championship debut off the bench a few weeks previously. St. Finians faced a difficult challenge in the 1st half playing into a very strong wind. However St Finians had goalpoacher turned goalkeeper Johnny Walsh enjoying his new role & in no mood to concede goals. In front of him James Quigley was solid at full back & Ciaran Groves in a sweeper role clearing an amount of ball. This meant Finians conceded no 1st half goals and struck for 2 goals of their via Alan Lawton & Conor Halpin leaving the half time score 0-13 to 2-6 , Finians trailing by a point.
The 2nd half was evenly contested with both teams scoring 7pts each. James Foley was in very good form coming on at half time with Sean Halpin & Paddy Hattie both scoring good points following their introduction. The game looked destined for a draw when Alan Lawton pointed a free to equalise but unfortunately from a Finians perspective Eoghan Ruadh/Plunketts struck the winning point in injury time to conclude an exciting & enjoyable encounter
The next match is Sunday 3rd September at 3pm in Glencullen v Stars of Erin.
